Dear First Lutheran Family and Friends

This is the "Easter Acclimation" and these words proclaim both our faith in AND our hope in the resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ! Easter is more than just one day in the year when we gather to celebrate our Lord's resurrection. It is actually a seven-week season running from Easter Sunday to Pentecost (May 19th) and includes the Feast of Ascension (May 9th). The season recalls that when Jesus rose from the dead, He remained with His disciples for 40 days until His ascension to heaven the week before the Festival of Pentecost – 50 days after Easter.  During this time, Jesus – still fully God and fully man – appeared to; lived, walked, ate, and slept with; and taught His disciples as He did before His death. He truly was raised to new life ... He wasn't a ghost or spirit (John 20:19-31).

During the Easter season we celebrate Jesus' decisive victory over sin and death. We celebrate that fact that His victory over sin and death is also our victory. As we live now as children of God in a fallen world, He has called us to continue His mission to seek and save the lost through the good news of the gospel. Then, one day, He will return to raise all who believe to new and eternal life in the new creation.

Therefore, throughout this season and until that day of His return, we proclaim in our worship and our lives, "Alleluia! Christ is risen. He is risen indeed. Alleluia!"
