DCE Shawn Maassel
Shawn graduated from Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Indiana in 1986 with a degree in psychology and pre-physical therapy. She continued on to complete a second bachelor's degree in physical therapy at the University of Maryland at Baltimore. Shawn worked as a physical therapist until 1999 when she began serving First Lutheran as our 'Minister of Family Life, Youth and Education.' After completing the LCMS's DCE colloquy program through Concordia, St. Paul (2007,) she accepted a Call as our Director of Christian Education and oversees our education and family-life ministries. She and her husband Paul live in St. Leonard, MD. They have three grown children (and grandsons) across the country. In addition to her role at First Lutheran, she leads fitness classes with Body & Soul Fitness and and virtual Bible studies & wellness groups with First Place 4 Health.
