Seth Korte
Email:
Vicar

In April, 2009, during Concordia Seminary’s (St. Louis, Missouri) “Call Day” Service, Second- Year Seminarian, Seth P. Korte, received his assignment of vicarage to First Lutheran Church, Huntingtown, Maryland, to serve for one year’s time, as Vicar.

Following his arrival, in early August, Seth was installed as First Lutheran’s Vicar, on August 16, 2009.  Since that time, Vicar Seth has had the privilege of getting to know, and serve alongside the kind, servant-hearted folks of First Lutheran Church (FLC).  To date, his activities include (but certainly are not limited to): working closely with FLC’s current staff and volunteers, preaching, assisting with the administering of the sacraments, liturgy, teaching, outreach events/activities, youth group support, confirmation assistance, hospital/shut-in visitation, fellowship activities, Little Lambs Preschool support, grounds upkeep, etc.

Vicar Seth comes to FLC not only with a passion for sharing the good news of salvation, centered in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, for the forgiveness of sins, BUT ALSO, with a passion for investing in the lives of those around him.  Vicar Seth has a BIG heart for people, and truly enjoys deepening relationships with those around him!

Having received his Bachelor of Science-Natural Resources (BSNR) degree, from the University of Nebraska (2005), Vicar Seth also comes to Maryland with a love and an admiration for the outdoors…especially wildlife! During the two years prior to his enrollment at Concordia Seminary, Vicar Seth worked with a top-notch group of researchers, at the University of Nebraska, whose primary focus was the study of white-tailed deer (ecology, population dynamics, movements, disease transmission, and habitat use).  Although his primary responsibilities were publication preparation, Vicar Seth also enjoyed the opportunity to venture out, into the field, to aid in the tracking and capture/release of deer (the later actually required researchers to enter the netted-cage trap, restrain the deer, and fit them with a collar, thus allowing for the successful monitoring/tracking of the deer! Truly a memorable experience!).

It was during this time in Seth’s life, when God opened other doors, as well.  Along with “deer research,” the opportunity came to become more involved in the activities of a local, campus ministry, at the University of Nebraska.  Small group Bible studies, outreach events, mission trips, English as a Secondary Language classes, international student ministry events, etc. were just a small handful out of the number of activities underway at the University Lutheran Chapel.  Through these activities, prayer, and the wise Christian counsel of the Chapel’s staff (as well as that of his home congregation pastor, family, and friends), Seth began to more strongly consider the possibility of full-time ministry.

During the spring of 2007, Seth (finally) made application to Concordia Seminary, and began making arrangements for his move to St. Louis! Still a bit uncertain, yet confident in God’s promise(s) to accompany, lead, and guide, Seth entered the Seminary and began formal instruction and training for the pastoral office…a move which continues to open his heart more and more, to the joys of serving our Lord, and His people!

Upon successful completion of his vicarage year, Seth will return to Concordia Seminary, to conclude his course work.  After which time, he will once again look forward to the Seminary’s “Call Day” Service, when Seth, and his fellow 4th-year seminarians, will receive their call to serve through the office of public ministry…as parish pastor, missionary, OR in whatever capacity God so desires!
